An Introduction To The 20TH Battalion

20th-battalion-slide-1
Welcome to the website of 20th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force!

My name is Rob Johnston and it was my grandfather, Pte. Harry Johnston, 1899 – 1946, regimental #57667 who inspired me to develop this site. It is to him and all those who served in the 20th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, and to the men and women who bravely fought for freedom in The Great War, 1914 – 1918, that I dedicate this site.

It is my goal that this website respectfully honour those who served, that it be a tribute to their efforts and for it to be a source of information to everyone.

As time goes by there will be many contributors to this website, too many to mention by name but I must thank Kevin Johnston(no relation that I know of) of 500bucks.ca who along with his staff, designed, built and will maintain this site with hours of time and effort and to fellow Canadian Expeditionary Force Study Group member, Dion Loach, who along with Michael Thierens and Dwight Mercer tackled the very difficult task of transcribing the handwritten diaries of the 20th Battalion.

We invite everyone to contribute a short biographies, pictures and articles if possible of their relatives who served in the 20th Battalion. Wouldn’t it be great to one day have every member represented.

Please feel free to contact me.
And to those men and women who served, we thank you!
Respectfully
Robert Harry Johnston
Proud Grandson of Pte. Harry Johnston, #57667
