Reserve at BULLY GRENAY x  The enemy artillery continued active for one hour after the operation, and continued to display some activity for the rest of the day x  The defense of our line was again taken over by a special composite company from this Battalion at 9 a.m.  Casualties : Killed in Action : 22 other ranks.  Died of Wounds : 5 O.R’s.,  Missing : 1 O.R.,  Wounded : 2 Officers  51 O.R’s.
The total number of prisoners captured by both Battalions during this operation was 1 Officer and 99 O.R’s. of the 22nd R.I. Regt.  The number of prisoners taken by this Battalion ammounted to 1 Officer and 67 O.R’s.
During this operation some 30 dugouts were entirely destroyed, also 1 M.G. Emplacement and 1 T.M. Emplacement, special charges being carried into the line for this purpose x  One light T.M. (fish tail) was captured in good condition and brought back to our lines x  One machine gun was also captured, but was afterwards blown to pieces by an enemy shell x
During the operation the wind turned more to the west, which made the conditions very much more satisfactory for the use of the smoke barrage, which was of great assistance in covering the withdrawal of our troops and without which more numerous casualties would have been suffered x
The mine at M.4.d.3.5, exploded at zero hour, plus 15 mins., near the very important tactical feature known as the DOUBLE CRASSIER, served its purpose as a diversion, as this part of the line immediately came in for a great deal of shelling by the enemy artillery x

Thu., Jan 18, 1917
Snowing all day x  The Battalion moved from Brigade Reserve at BULLY GRENAY to the Canadian Corps Training Area at BRUAY, and marched as detailed in operation order No. 58 attached, arriving in billets at 3 p.m.  Condition of the roads was very unfavourable for marching x  Composite Coy. was relieved in the line by a company of the 14th Bn., 1st Cdn. Divn. and rejoined this unit at BRUAY at 5 p.m.  March casualties – Nil.
